Property in Austria: build your shortlist

Buying a property in Austria is easier to approach when you compare homes against a written brief. Decide what you need the purchase to do, then use the existing listings to narrow the options.

Choose the right starting category

  • A home to occupy: focus on layout, local services, condition and the date it can be used.
  • A rental investment: review occupation, lease information, running expenses and the proposed letting model.
  • A holiday base: consider permitted use, seasonal access and how the property would be maintained.
  • A renovation opportunity: understand the work required and allow room in the budget for professional assessment.

Compare the complete proposition

The asking price is only one part of a useful comparison. Note the stated living area, bedroom count, outside space, parking and whether fittings are included. Record uncertainties separately so they can be answered before you travel.

Open the current Austrian property selection and keep the links to your preferred listings. For each one, write down the features that meet your brief and the issues that would prevent you from proceeding.

A tenanted apartment, a new-build unit and a holiday property can involve very different conditions. Treat the information in each listing as specific to that property, and ask for clarification where your intended use depends on it.
